Nia Amber Talks Viral Ariana Grande Cover And What Makes Her Strikingly Different

Nia Amber is exactly what the music industry needed.

The phrase “a force to be reckoned with” is one that people tend to use loosely. Yet, every once in a while, there’s that one artist slips through the cracks and truly deserves the title “a force to be reckoned with.” That artist is Nia Amber. Get to know the name.

Nia Amber is an R&B singer, songwriter as well as a classically trained dancer. In her Contrast interview, she expressed how she first discovered her love for music at the young age of 6 years old from her mother.

“My mom was the first person to discover my musical gift. I remember around the age of 7 we spent countless nights singing in the kitchen. She would always sing and have me mimic the notes,” she said.

In 2019, Spotify hosted their RapCaviar female dominated live showcase in Miami, Florida with headliners Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Saweetie, LATTO, Lil Kim and more. Nia Amber was among these incredibly talented women in music to perform on that stage.

Nia Amber is undeniable and she is up next. Hip Hop royalty, Trina knows this and has been a mentor and label-head to Nia over the recent years since signing with Rockstarr Music Group. “She has been a staple in hip hop culture for so many years and paved the way for  young artists like myself to have an opportunity and a voice in music,” Nia explains. “Because she is from Miami that makes the connection even more special.”

The artist within Nia is ready to create music that touches people and makes a difference.

“2022 will be my year! New music, new visuals, new Nia Amber. I will be stepping outside of the box and rebranding myself.”

Tell me about your earliest memory of music. Ever since I can remember, the arts have always surrounded me. My mom was the first person to discover my musical gift. I remember around the age of 7 we spent countless nights singing in the kitchen. She would always sing and have me mimic the notes. I also took chorus in elementary school and summer camp. It’s safe to say music and the arts have always been a part of me.

You were once in a girl group, Amity Love. How did that help prepare you to be a solo artist? I actually first learned how to harmonize in Amity Love! Harmonizing with four other girls isn’t as easy as it seems, however, with the help of our vocal coach Ms. Anita we got better and better day by day. Being in a girl group with multiple personalities was a challenge but I’m extremely grateful for those experiences. I learned so much; the importance of teamwork, determination and compromise, were some of the things that I took from that experience. These things help me today as a solo artist because you need all of those things to cope in the music industry today. There are so many things that require determination, grit, compromise, patience and most of all trusting a team to help. This career can be rewarding yet overwhelming.

“Swing My Way” dropped in 2020 under Trina’s label, Rockstarr Music Group. What’s the story behind this track? We wanted to make music fun again! I literally told my producer/writer Arlon I just want to make a song that makes people dance and feel good. We locked ourselves in a room with some good vibes and a dope track and just like that Swing my way was born!

How has it been being a protégé for female hip-hop MC Trina? Working with Trina has been a great experience! She has been a staple in hip hop culture for so many years and paved the way for  young artists like myself to have an opportunity and a voice in music.  Because she is from Miami that makes the connection even more special. I am honored that she has given me the opportunity to have touched the same stage as so many artists such as K. Michelle, Doja Cat, Big Latto and many more. I’m just a girl from Miami trying to make it to the big league, so this was a major opportunity for me! I deeply appreciate Trina’s support and love. Having a Legend from Miami with so many years in the game Co-sign me is major and I’m grateful that she believes in me.

You’ve said before that you want to touch people with your music. What do you want your legacy to be long after you’re gone? I want to leave a legacy of love and self-acceptance for my fans through my music and my brand. I want to be bold and courageous and encourage my audience to love and accept themselves for who they are, just the way they were created.  I want them to know they are beautiful inside and out no matter what society says. When I was a child, I always struggled with accepting my dark skin because I was always teased because of how tall and dark I was. I want anyone struggling with similar insecurities or issues with acceptance to know they are beautiful just the way God made them. I believe this because he makes no mistakes.

Who are some of your dream collaborations? Doja Cat! She’s one of my favorite artists right now. I just love how out of the box she is and how she embodies bold and original. My next one would definitely be Ariana Grande. She’s so talented, I’ve always loved the swag in her songs. Lastly, Beyonce of course!

Your cover of Ariana Grande’s “POV” was so good, I had it on repeat! If you collaborated with Ari, what would the music video be about? Paint a picture for us! Working with Ariana Grande is a dream of mine! She is such a talented, dope artist. I would definitely want to do something fun! Ariana has been performing since she was very young and like me has done a little experimenting and performing in musical theater. I envision something fun and maybe inspired by Grease. Something that would incorporate dance, singing, props, a production set, lighting… the works. I definitely envision something out of the box different but bold and in today’s time. Working with Ariana would be a dream come true.  I absolutely love her.

What’s next for you? 2022 will be my year! New music, new visuals, new Nia Amber. I will be stepping outside of the box and rebranding myself. I want to introduce the world to a bold, edgy, fun and sexy girl. I will be creating content that stands out and shows off my modelesque physique, sexy dance moves and sultry sounds. Stay tuned for the NEW NIA AMBER “GODDESS OF MIAMI” You will be seeing a lot of me!

The definition of Contrast is ‘to be strikingly different.” What makes Nia Amber strikingly different? Standing at 5 feet 9 inches tall with cocoa brown skin makes me different from the start. What I have learned in this industry is that not many artists fit that mold. I want to use these special features to enhance my overall brand. Nia Amber is bold and edgy yet fun and charismatic. I want my music and visuals to reflect that. When i walk into a room I typically stand out because I’m the tallest in the room; I want the Nia Amber brand and my music to have the same affect. It needs to have the biggest impact on the people and stand out in rooms across the world.
