Pharrell Williams Joins Louis Vuitton As Men’s Creative Director

A man of many hats, Pharrell Williams, has displayed his talent all over the music scene. From producing and writing to creating his hits with notable collaborations, he is a figurehead in music. He even created his own streetwear clothing line, Billionaire Boys Club, in the process of getting into the fashion business. However, he has opted to take his talents to high-end fashion with his recent joint venture with the luxury brand, Louis Vuitton. The brand has brought Williams on as the new Creative Director of their menswear section.

Pharell is known for his iconic songs such as “Beautiful” featuring rapper Snoop Dogg, “Lemon” with singer Rihanna, and crowd favorite “Happy”. He was initially a member of the group the Neptunes, experimenting with different sounds and genres along the way. His dare-to-dream attitude took him across different playing fields that landed him behind the booth. While creating magic, he expanded his empire and applied his creativity to brands Ice Cream, Billionaire Girls Club, and Bee Line. With these different lines gaining popularity, the Louis Vuitton brand felt they had found the perfect candidate.

The Creative Director role was once filled by the late Virgil Abloh, so Louis Vuitton naturally took their time in finding a replacement. Abloh was the first Black American to graciously take hold of that position so Williams is happy to continue the historical significance. The two actually had a personal friendship that went beyond working for the clothing giant. Williams was “heartbroken” by his untimely death and hopes to bring the magic that Virgil once held with Louis Vuitton.

June will mark the first month of Pharrell William’s emergence as the Creative Director for the menswear division. Come fashion week in Paris, the first collection will be put on display for public viewing.  In 2018, Louis Vuitton became the first $10 billion brand but still have found the value in keeping their line diverse and ever changing. They have themselves collaborated with streetwear brand Supreme and trendy line Savage x Fenty to keep their styles fresh. Staying in tune with the trends can be a fulltime job but with Pharrell Williams as the head of the menswear line, we can be certain it’ll be worth the work.
