A-Lex Releases New Project, ‘From A Seed Deluxe”
Not a lot of musicians have a built-in fan base when they drop their first album. But that was the case of A-Lex, whose first solo release was 2019’s “One.” In the EP, he included six original songs created entirely by him.
Of course, many fans of the Atlanta music scene may have recognized Alex Lloyd’s handiwork on “Layers Vol. 1,” a collaboration between artists of different styles in 2018, including pop, hip-hop, R&B and gospel.
The year prior, he worked with Musiq Soulchild’s “Feel The Real,” which earned A-Lex a Grammy nod for songwriting. With “One” he showed the world he was ready to do things his way with his own sense of style.
Guess what? It gets better after that.
In fall 2020, the East Atlanta performer went back to the studio to create “From a Seed,” a collection of 11 songs that transcend the boundaries of hip-hop, R&B and pop to create something truly special in a wide selection of musical styles. The album is available on SoundCloud and other sources.
This spring, he released “From a Seed Deluxe,” an upgraded version of the album, saying he still had more to get off his chest from the fall release. The album includes singles like “The Hook Up” and “Already Rich,” and the R&B hit “My Business.” There are also collaborations featuring KeKe Palmer, Cantrelle and Louis IV.
Critics have been saying that “From a Seed” shows a new side to A-Lex, who still has the right stuff in terms of pure musical chops, but has become more confident, bold, and ready to show and share his true feelings. A-Lex from Decatur started in music 2008, following graduation from the Art Institute of Atlanta.
He has been influenced by all sorts of musicians over the years, including Frank Ocean, Andre 3000 and Pharrell Williams. He loves how Williams does it all: sings, writes, produces and more, and wants to follow in his footsteps.
During discussions about the melodic production of “FromASeedDeluxe,” A-Lex is happy to continue the growing analogy, crediting family and others for being the sunshine and the water to help him grow. He also talks about his early musical efforts being part of the process of developing roots and foundation. But now he’s able to see the fruits of his labor.
