Algee Smith taps into heartbreak and hedonism on new single “Magic City”

Actor Algee Smith is stepping out of the spotlight and into the studio. Known for his standout roles in Euphoria, The New Edition Story, The Hate U Give, and Judas and the Black Messiah, Smith is now turning the mic on his own emotional journey with the release of his new single, Magic City.

A hypnotic, melodic track, Magic City isn’t just a strip club anthem — it’s a heartbreak confession dressed in neon lights. “It’s a story of a man masking his pain with temporary pleasure,” Smith says. “The club-like bounce and smooth melodies draw you in instantly, but then you realize this is actually a song about heartbreak.”

The track marks the third single from his upcoming EP, following Sinners and Honest, and sets the tone for what’s shaping up to be a vulnerable, soul-searching project. Due later this summer, the six-track EP explores the raw realities of love, loss, and self-discovery — featuring production from a heavyweight lineup that includes GRAMMY winner Khris Riddick-Tynes (Snooze, After Hours), Charlie Heat (J. Cole, Bryson Tiller), and Kameron Glasper (Fat, Juicy & Wet, Ariana Grande, Megan Thee Stallion).

With a Hollywood resume already stacked, Algee Smith is ready to prove that his artistry runs deeper than the screen. And if Magic City is any indication, he’s just getting started.
