Chicocurlyhead Speaks Growing Up in Panama, Being Influenced by Post Malone and More

Chicocurlyhead, born John Farrish, has made it a point to let us know he’s here to stay. Having a hand in his own songwriting, he draws in influence from trap artists like J Balvin, Bad Bunny and wants to create music “from a Black perspective.”

At the age of 18, Chicocurlyhead released his debut album ‘EL SAINT’ and has no plans of stopping. We had a chance to speak with him about his upcoming projects and here’s what he had to say.

Tell me how growing up in Panama influenced your music. Growing up in Panama was crazy, there was a lot of gang activity and crazy stuff that happened all the time, but when it came to music and the culture itself, everyone united and enjoyed it. It doesn’t matter if the music is in English or in Spanish, we just enjoy and love music overall in Panama.

Who are some of your musical influences? Some of my musical influences are artists such as J Balvin, Saint Jhn, Travis Scott, Post Malone, and Sech. These people influence me the most and give me inspiration when it comes to my music and my creative process. Besides the few that I mentioned, my biggest influence and who inspires me is GOD.

You recently released Dame Más De Ti. Tell me how this song came about.Dame Mas De Ti” was honestly an easy song to complete. It came to life surrounded by great people and great vibes and I was also inspired by Post Malone, but I turned that vibe into my own thing and made it my own.

Who would be your dream collaborations? My dream collaborations are crazy! I feel like I’m weird because I would say Kid Cudi, J Balvin and myself on a track would be insane! Overall, I would say everyone that inspires me would be a Dream Collab.

When did you realize you wanted to make music? I realized I wanted to make music about two years ago, after I released my first song, I just kept creating and creating. That’s when I realized this is what I want to do and I enjoy it, like it, love it! This is it and not only that, but I realized that I was good at it too.

Tell me about your song modelo! My song “Modelo” is a global banger! The world just hasn’t realized it yet. Nothing else to say BANGER, it was big vibes when we made the song, everyone that was a part of it are fire and if you haven’t already done so, go stream “Modelo” out now everywhere! ya tú sabe!

What’s next from you? What’s next from me, that’s a good question. Definitely more music, I’m just going to keep coming and coming and coming until they know who I am and the world realizes that I have what it takes to be one of the greats and leave them saying “Okay, Chico is fire, no doubt about it, he’s one of the best”; that’s my ultimate dream with my music, to be able to connect with a global audience and that people can identify with my music.

The definition of Contrast is ‘to be strikingly different.’ What makes your strikingly different? What I think makes me “strikingly different” is my style, my music, my sound, my story, just me as a person and as a human being. I honestly don’t think there’s anybody out here doing the Spanglish like I do & I mean that in the most humble way possible.
