Pablo Alborán: From KM0 to Respira, A New Era of Music, Acting, and Personal Growth”

Pablo Alborán isn’t a stranger to the spotlight, but he carries himself with genuine humility and an outgoing personality that makes him an inviting person to speak with. CONTRAST caught up with Alborán in Miami during Latin Music Week to talk about his upcoming album KM0, his new acting role in Netflix’s Respira, and what this next chapter means to him.

Alborán joined Billboard Latin Music Week’s popular panel, “Making the Hit, Live,” alongside mega-producer Julio Reyes Copello. Speaking with CONTRAST, he shared his excitement about being back in Miami: “It’s so cool to be here for Billboard Latin Music Week. Miami always feels special. It’s a good place to work.”

After releasing six studio albums, Alborán returns with KM0, a project that reflects a deeply personal moment in his life. He told CONTRAST, “When a family member was going through a really tough time, she was sick, had a bone marrow transplant, and somehow came back to life. I realized that when life gives you a second chance, you have to make it meaningful.” KM0 is his way of honoring that love, resilience, and gratitude.

Alborán also experimented with different styles across the album. He explains, “The album is very rich in sounds,” describing how KM0 blends flamenco, salsa, merengue, and heartfelt ballads which are sonic reflections of the many layers of his artistry. Among the singles is “Vámonos de Aquí,” featuring Brazilian musician Indiara Sfair, adding a worldwide fusion to the project. Listeners are in for a journey and something fresh from Alboran in this new musical phase of his career.

Several music videos have already been released, each showcasing different emotions and creative directions. One of the most personal visuals is for the title track, “KM0,” where Alborán performs at the piano, center stage. “I was thinking about my family, about them, and how grateful I feel. It’s also about my audience, they are always there for me, and they never let me down,” he reflects. These songs, born out of a challenging period in his life, are dedicated to his fans who have supported him through it all.

Visually, the KM0 era is a collection of emotions, genres, and themes. The music videos shift from emotional storytelling to high-energy choreography. When asked how he develops these creative concepts, Alborán says he loves collaborating with different teams: “I think it’s important because it gives the song different dimensions and meanings.” He admits that the process can be unpredictable but finds beauty in that creative evolution.

A tour is also on the horizon, beginning in Chile next March. “My brother is my creative director, so no one knows me better,” he says. “We’re trying to create a different atmosphere for each song, keeping things simple but with a big stage and different scenes.” Maintaining the show’s energy and emotional depth is a priority, and while it’s a lot of hard work, Alborán is confident the results will be worth it. U.S. dates are also planned for the following year.

Beyond music, Alborán is stepping into a new world: acting. He’s joining the cast of Netflix’s upcoming series Respira, marking his acting debut. “I’m really excited about acting because it’s something very different for me,” he shares. He worked extensively on his role, playing a doctor, and notes that while songwriting is introspective, acting required him to step outside himself, something he found surprisingly therapeutic. “It was a fun experience,” he adds, teasing that viewers can expect romance and a bit of sex in the series.

Throughout his career, Alborán has built a path rooted in integrity and creative freedom. He credits his team for always supporting his vision: “No one’s ever told me what I had to do. I’ve made mistakes, but that’s part of the process, you learn from them.”

With accolades including Latin Grammys, a Goya, and the Medal of Andalusia, Alborán has achieved more than most artists dream of. Yet, when asked what feels most meaningful, his answer is simple and profound: “The greatest award is coming home and sharing my joy and work with my family.” For him, success is not measured by headlines or awards but by love and connection. “That’s the best reward,” he concludes.

Make sure to listen to Pablo Alborán’s latest album KM0, catch him in the Netflix series Respira, and keep an eye out for his upcoming tour, you just might find him performing in a city near you.
