Taylor Swift to be sued for lyrics in “Shake It Off”

Taylor swift is in the news yet again, but not for what you’re thinking! It’s not another breakup, this time T. Swift is being SUED! Yes, we repeat, sued!

Swift is allegedly being taken to court for $42 million dollars over the lyrics in her hit song, “Shake It Off.” R&B singer Jesse Braham alleged Swift stole the words from a song he wrote in 2013 entitled “Haters Gone Hate.” As if monetary compensation wasn’t enough, Braham has also wants to be associated as one of the writers on Swift’s song.

Braham, known by his stage name Jesse Graham, alleges he has copyright ownership of the terminology “haters gone hate” and “playas gone play”, which happen to appear in the chorus of Swift’s song. In Braham’s song, the chorus encompasses: “Haters gone hater, playas gone play/ Watch out for them fakers, they’ll fake you everyday.” The chorus of “Shake It Off” comprises lyrics including: “Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play/ And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.” She sings another line: “And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake.”

Although some would say Braham seems to be wishing to ride coat tails, so to speak, others claim Braham has legal right to compensation for his words.
