Daniela Brooker Talks New Music In Quarantine
If you were paying attention to musical media in 2018, the name Daniela Brooker is probably familiar to you. The gorgeous singer/songwriter released “Reckless” in February of 2018. We’re not telling you to forget what you heard, but forget what you heard. Daniela is lighting up 2020 and igniting the music scene with a completely different sound. Her song “Hoy,” released recently and has broken new ground for her career.
Daniela’s video for “Hoy” has reached over one million views on YouTube, sparking a sensation. The video features an exceptionally sexily clad Daniela playing a “Robin Hood-esque” role of a sexy seductress who robs the rich and gives to the poor. The video is set in a cantina-style club. It features some very stealthy five-finger discounts on Daniela’s end of things. “Hoy” is upbeat and fun to listen to, regardless of if you speak Spanish or not! One of the lyrics mentions not being a “one-night stand,” and we definitely agree; Daniela absolutely leaves you wanting more.
The song itself directly expresses what Daniela wants out of a relationship. Daniela is, essentially, grabbing back the reins from the male-dominated intimacy and relationship area of music. With an early love for music, Daniela has spent most of her life chasing her dream. “I’ve always just been interested in music – I just never had any other interests.” Nothing could stand in her way, as far as she was concerned. Daniela put her social life, other extra-curricular activities, and schooling on pause and rocketed towards finding herself a producer. She discovered that producer around her thirteenth year of life and produced a song called “Summertime.”
This pandemic has been rough on everyone and is making people come up with creative ways to continue with some form of normal. Daniela has found using video chat for her writing sessions, eases the lack of social interaction, while still maintaining some safety precautions. “I’ve been a lot more creative in other ways with my project and putting my new song out. It’s hard to write songs when you’re cooped up and not outliving to be inspired.” It must be difficult to write songs about anything other than morning coffee at this point! “I’m just going to be releasing new music during the quarantine because I think it’s the best time. Everyone’s at home and music is such an amazing way to lift people’s spirits.” Unless you were working from home before the pandemic, rolling out of bed and into the home office is an interesting chore!
Hardcore Londoner, Daniela, also gives us some spicy charm with her Venezuelan side. A Spanish speaker with an adorable London accent? Yes, please! Her latest songs are written and sung all in Spanish! Corazón mío! “I’m born and raised in London, England, but my family is half Venezuelan. I spent a lot of my childhood growing up there. I really claimed both halves, so totally bang in the middle of the two. ”
